Section 504

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is for the purpose of prohibiting discrimination and to assure that disabled students have educational opportunities and benefits equal to those provided to non-disabled students. An eligible student is a student who (a) has, (b) has a record of having, or (c) is regarded as having, a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits a major life activity. Parents, Guardians and/or Staff shall make a written referral to the Section 504 school campus Designee, who will present their requests to the Section 504 Multi-Disciplinary Team for determination. If eligibility criteria are met, the 504 Multi-Disciplinary Team will determine how the disability impacts the student at school and determine reasonable accommodations and modifications needed within the school environment. A written record shall be provided to Parents/Guardians and all Certificated Staff working with the student. The plan shall be reviewed at least annually.
